Lorisidae (or sometimes Loridae) is a family of strepsirrhine primates. The rhinarium contains receptors of touch and thus functions as a mechanoreceptor organ for close-up perception. The infraorder Lorisiformes includes all the extant African and Asian species of lorises, pottos, and galagos, which are represented by nine genera and 18 species of small-bodied, nocturnal primates.28 The infraorder Lemuriformes is composed of five families endemic to Madagascar: (1) Lemuridae (bamboo lemurs, ring-tailed lemurs, true lemurs, and ruffed lemurs), (2) Indriidae (indri, sifakas, and woolly lemurs), (3) Cheirogaleidae (mouse lemurs, dwarf lemurs, and fork-marked lemurs), (4) Lepilemuridae (sportive lemurs), and (5) Daubentoniidae (aye-aye).
