The result is a film that rings bitingly true, but respects its audience enough to let them connect the dots themselves. Regina Hall is great, and Haley Lu Richardson and Shayna McHayle are pretty darn good too! Use the HTML below. As the manager of Double Whammies, a “family” restaurant specializing in “boobs, brews, and big screens,” she makes respect a priority. The Trump campaign has been whining about anything and everything related to the second presidential debate. In writer/director Bujalski’s engaging, deeply-felt comedy, that’s the battle Lisa (Hall) wages over the course of a day and change—and one she seems to have been waging for years. Director-screenwriter: Andrew Bujalski Lisa is a tough professional who keeps the show on the road while maintaining a protective love and concern for the vulnerable semi-clad women under her wing, including Maci (Haley Lu Richardson) and Jennelle (Dylan Gelula) – both excellent – though she has serious problems in her own home life: a failed relationship with a depressive guy called Cameron (Lawrence Varnardo) who has yet to move out. And after a day spent tending to the feelings of others, it’s perhaps understandable that Lisa might want to do one, then maybe another, and then maybe all three at once. 11:39 AM PDT 3/28/2018 by John DeFore ... Andrew Bujalski’s day in the life of a sports bar is a nuanced, episodic tale of female solidarity, Last modified on Sun 30 Jun 2019 03.17 EDT. Regina Hall is terrific as a manager looking after her young, vulnerable staff while dealing with trouble at home. A woman trying to do the right thing in a lot of bad situations, Lisa is motivated not just by her own need to pay the rent, but by loyalty to the younger women around her — especially Danielle (newcomer Shayna McHayle, who makes music under the moniker Junglepussy), an unflappable vet who knows the place about as well as Lisa; and Maci (Hailey Lu Richardson), a cheery kid who quietly ignores house rules about physical contact with customers. Her laughter always walks close to tears, and her irritation is always laced through with amusement. Add a vindictive boss with rage issues and the slow, painful breakup of her marriage and Lisa has plenty to juggle with, even before the cable TV packs in and someone vomits all over the men’s toilets.

You can be honest, think about it,” Lisa says to Danyelle, who responds instantly: “I like working with you.”. Double Whammies is a place designed to treat women as objects, and replaceable ones at that. The general manager at a highway-side ''sports bar with curves" has her incurable optimism and faith, in her girls, her customers, and herself, tested over the course of a long, strange day.
