This is a story about grief and all the emotions it entails. This appears to be the month for grown-up movies that take a chance on treating sentiment seriously.

The film is bathed in nature as we journey through the seasons with Lucas’ character on this little harbor that’s actually an offshoot of Lake Michigan. The wise, seafaring woman who sits beside Mr. Cromwell on the porch of a waterside cafe, as they watch over Mr. Lucas like guardian angels, is the Waitress (Ayelet Zurer), who provides the Young Mariner with a night of sexual healing. Jane Boursaw is the founder and editor-in-chief of Reel Life With Jane. Today at the Denver FilmCenter/Colfax, director Chris Eyre’s quiet, mournful, worthy drama “Hide Away” opens. Josh Lucas was wonderful, as were the other two actors.
