Quite often artists have bemoaned the interference of record companies in their projects, and I gathered that Davis Sylvian just wanted to release an album of instrumental music, until the company asked/told him to come up with some songs. Generally I would say that he is an artist perhaps not for the general public and this album still tends to cling onto the Japan roots in places but when you hear the likes of silver moon and river man he is truly moving away from Japan. The sound stage on the originals compared to the new ones is something else though and a real shame they were not pressed with love and placed in polylined Virgin inner bags to protect them from the plant to our hands.
